Professional Education Committee (PEC)
PEC is the advisory body to the epi Board on questions relating to professional education and qualification. The members of PEC are professional representatives having an active interest in these questions. Each EPC member country has a representative on the Committee. The Committee acts as liaison between the Examination Board/Examination Committees and the epi. PEC is also responsible for various activities, such as epi Tutorials and Students of the epi, which have been set up to facilitate for candidates preparing for the European Qualifying Examination (EQE).PEC meets regularly to discuss questions relating to education and qualification. There is a continuing dialogue between students, tutors and PEC on matters related to the EQE. PEC also has meetings with the Examination Board (EB) and the Examination Committees (ECs). During these meetings comments from the candidates as well as from the EB and ECs are discussed. It is of great importance to have this open dialogue about the EQE and the questions raised in connection therewith and the role of PEC is to coordinate these matters.
Current issues on the PEC agenda are the low exam success rate as well as the Continuing Professional Education for professional representatives. The PEC has a working group analysing the EQE. The aim is to see what measures, if any, can be taken to improve the success rate of the EQE. Another working group is examining Continuing Professional Education and setting up different seminars for all epi members. This is a task that will be of great importance in the future in order to maintain a skilled and competitive profession in Europe. A further important task is be the integration of professional representatives from future member countries or recently acceding countries into the European qualifying system to maintain a high level of professional education.
